- A Casino Themed 60th Birthday We surprised my Mother-In-Law this weekend for her 60th Birthday! We had a dinner for her at Gallagher's in Atlantic City. The restaurant is already nicely decorated so I just made a few items to make it seem more like a party.

Decorations
For your casino-themed party, think red, black and especially green! Decorate your place with fake money, chips and cards. Turn the lights down low and string twinkly lights everywhere to set the mood.
Provide each of your guests with little buckets for their winnings. To keep people circulating and interacting with one another, give everyone a score card that keeps tracks of how many games they’ve tried.
Cover tables with black felt and use a white paint marker to draw blackjack, craps and baccarat lines, or buy pre-made game layouts. You should have a rule book handy in case there are any disputes, but don’t forget this old adage: The house always wins!
Attire
Depending on the type of establishment you’re running, you might want some guests to be patrons, and others to work the tables as dealers. Make sure your gamblers are dressed to the nines — visualize a tuxedo-wearing James Bond staring down Le Chiffre in Casino Royale to get the right idea. Ladies and gents should get dolled up and into character.
Here are some ideas for spiffy clothing and accessories for your casino party outfit:
Casino Birthday Decorations
- Tuxedos and suits for the gents, sparkly attire for the ladies
- Pocket watches, opera gloves or sparkly jewelry
- Aces up your sleeves
- Decks of cards, dice, chips, fake money
- Prizes for the biggest spenders and biggest losers
Activities
Every casino party activity should center around gambling so set up different zones for different events: one for Texas Hold ‘Em, one for 5-card Stud and other poker games, and another for dice games and roulette.
Partner up novice gamblers with old pros, and make sure there’s space around your tables so people can watch and learn. If you’re feeling unconventional, make a tiny obstacle course or play charades!
Food
Casino Themed 40th Birthday Party
When you think casino, you generally think of drinks — and lots of them! — but don’t forget to fortify people’s stomachs with some good food!
If your casino leans more towards the highbrow, bust out the chafing dish and serve Swedish meatballs or warm crab and artichoke dip. Or stoke your guests’ appetites with spicy foods like wings, chips with charred corn salsa and tangy tomato bruschetta.
Hand out plenty of cocktail napkins so that hands, cards and tables stay clean. You don’t want anything to undermine the legitimacy of your operation!
Drinks
Champagne Cocktail (serves 1)
- 2 dashes bitters
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Chilled Champagne
- 1 twist lemon peel
Mix and serve chilled.
For a nonalcoholic alternative, make pitchers of classics like Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers. Be sure to decorate with maraschino cherries and groovy stir sticks.

- Games: What's a casino party without the games? There are actually companies that will bring a casino games to your venue so you can have a variety of games for your guests to play. They will often supply the dealers to not only deal the cards, but also explain how the games are played in case some guests are first-timers. If you're party is a little more low-key, you can set up a few tables for some of the more basic games like poker and blackjack.
- Party Tip: Instead of using real money (which might be a lot to ask of your guests), print up your own money with the guest of honor's face on the fake bills. Get some prizes so your guests have something to play for—gift cards or a bottle of wine work well.
- Food: Casino food can vary greatly. If you've been to Vegas lately, you know that the casinos are filled with upscale restaurants from world-famous chefs in a variety of cuisines. In this case, since your guests will be playing games, you probably don't want a sit-down meal. Set up a buffet with the guest of honor's favorite foods. Guests can take a break from the games to grab a plate for themselves.
- Cocktails: If you're hosting an upscale casino party, consider setting up a martini bar. Give guests a few liquors from which to choose, set our a few different types of mixer and put garnishes like cherries, olives, and orange slices in small bowls. You can even print up a few menu options or let guests have fun creating their own concoction.
