….as a start, it is a fact that I entered this world one morning in the autumn of 1977 at a hospital in Horsens, Denmark and I was given the name of Andreas Slot-Henriksen. My mother worked as a reflexologist and was running her own school. My father was a pastor in the state-supported Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark. All members of my family were christened, confirmed, and attending church. However, due to my father’s job, I became the victim of quite a lot of bullying at school. During that time it was not popular to be a believer. Gradually, my faith in God crumbled away, because how could a loving God permit that I was bullied because of Him!? I kept going to church just to keep my parents happy – that was all.
When in 7th grade my mother took me on a trip to England to attend a language school. For about a week we stayed at the house of a Bible believing family. One day, the father of the family asked me if he could pray to Jesus Christ for the healing of my knee, as he had become aware of my long-standing knee problems. I was hesitant to give my permission, but to be polite I accepted. He prayed, and I ended up with a healed knee – and a faith in God.
Due to the continuous bullying I changed school while in 9th grade. My new environment was a small Christian school in Vejle (Lukasskolen). They had collaborations with a large local radio station and a Pentecostal church, and because of this the school introduced an optional subject of how to make radio programmes. Here “I was stuck” for about eight years and I also started going to the Pentecostal church a bit.
On 14th January 1996 I first met my lovely wife, Birte while making a radio interview about abortion. Birte attended the Apostolic Church in Vejle and it became obvious for me to start going to that church. I involved myself quite heavily in church activities, but with three children, some sickness in the family, a career as an IT responsible, and later on as a professional speaker (www.speak-it.dk/en) with my own voice office (www.speakonline.co.uk) I was not very much involved in anything “Christian”. I hardly ever read the Bible… max 2-4 times a year. I was still convinced that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit was a reality… and I prayed whenever I remembered to do so. Christianity had been reduced to something that “existed” rather than a lifestyle.
During the summer of 2013 we spent a week at a Christian summer camp in Kolding, as we usually did. One of our good friends, Lene Hauge Jeppesen, who had been living near by us at Børkop, was a part of the same camp. Actually, Lene Hauge Jeppesen had given up on God, but because of a large crisis in her life immediately before the camp she had begun surfing on the internet for “miracles with God.” She felt compelled to find out whether all this “Jesus jazz” was true or false – and whether there really was a living and caring God that could help her in her situation. Lene’s search ended in her seeing for herself at a website with videos showing miracles happening after prayer in Jesus’ name. As a result, Lene got in touch with Tommy Gubi from Southern Jutland. Together with him she witnessed a LOT of healings as he and later she prayed for people on the streets. Later on, Lene on her own went out to pray for the sick and hurting and she continued to see a lot of healings including people giving their hearts to Jesus!
Then on 15 July 2013 at about 14:30 it happened.. I was able to go with Lene to the walking street of Kolding to pray for the sick, such as Jesus commanded believers to do. I too wanted to “see” – I too wanted to participate in telling others about Jesus – and wanting the confirmation that what Lene had told me was really true. As we headed for the street, my heart started beating faster. It is difficult to “humble” oneself like that.. as of course a lot of people think we are crazy. The very first day in Kolding we saw 10 wonderful healings in the name of Jesus… knee pains disappeared, a defective shoulder was healed, the backs of two bikers were healed, arthritis disappeared, neck pains disappeared, pains in a large burn disappeared, etc. – it was AMAZING to experience the power of God at work – and to see the surprised looks from people as they were suddenly healed.
This ignited a fire in me! – a fire to reach people and to see them surrender their lives to Christ as a result of the healings. The Bible opened up to me.. and I could not put it down.
The first night I woke up with the lyrics of a song in my mind, “With more than words I want to praise you. Not just in singing, but in deeds and in power.” It came very much alive to me that the power in the Name of Jesus should be a part of our everyday life.
Four days in a row, Lene and I went out on the streets to pray for the sick. The results were really building our faith and I just needed more.. There is a saying that healings happened 2,000 years ago, but not in our modern days. Nonsense! The words of Jesus came very much alive to me, commanding us to go out and work even greater miracles in his name than he himself had done. The power of Jesus is real!! .. even today! And almost even better: the healings that people receive open up for SO much. They cause people to really WANT TO listen to the gospel – and some invite Jesus to be their Lord and Saviour.. right there, at the middle of the walking street!
Here is an interview with Lene Hauge Jeppesen – and with me – only a week after I was “set in fire”:Wiel Arets Architects (WAA) is a globally active architecture and design firm, whose work extends to education and publishing, with studios located in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.
